49ers Comeback Just Short Against Brown
The 49ers, who fell behind 6-2 at the half, crept back into the game with one of three scores from Christina Wensman and the first of two from Andrea Angstadty midway through the third period to close to within 7-4. A Lansing goal made it 8-4 with 12 seconds left, before the 49ers scored four unanswered in the fourth period. LBSU could have scored more in the third frame, but Brown goalie Stephanie Laing made all six of her saves in the period, before the 49ers mounted their comeback. Angstadt's goal at 5:37 made it 8-5, before scores from Ashley Heaslip and Megan Winchell closed the gap further, at 8-7, with 4:11 remaining. A penatly shot goal from Wensman tied it at 8-8 at 3:24. Lansing's game-winner came right after the 49ers returned to full sttrength following a Winchell ejection at 2:06. In a busy week for the 49ers, LBSU plays at Loyola Marymount on Thursday and at USC on Saturday.
