Rocha Ties School-Record For Wins

LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State rallied in singles action and came
away with a 5-2 win over the University of Nevada on Wednesday afternoon
at the 49er Tennis Courts. The #50-ranked 49ers improved to 9-6 with the
win while the #57-ranked Wolfpack fall to 6-7. The win was the fourth
this season by the 49ers over a nationally-ranked opponent.
After losing the doubles point to begin the afternoon, the 49ers rattled
off five wins in singles to come away with the victory. At #1 singles,
Hannah Grady, who is ranked #119 in the country, defeated Maria Mizyuk
6-2, 6-3. Katy Williams won at #2 singles 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 over Caroline
Bailly and Stephanie Bengson won at three singles 6-3, 6-1 over Ly-Huong
Dinh. Sandra Rocha won 6-0, 6-1 over Fiorella Velez at #5 singles and
Rachael Porsz closed out the wins with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Back-Lan
Pham at #6 singles.
The win by Rocha gave her 133 total victories in her four-year 49er career.
She is tied for the #1 spot on the career victory chart with Havaja Frljuckic.
She can set the new record on Thursday when the 49ers take on Princeton.
The day began with Nevada winning two of the three doubles matches to
earn the doubles point. At #2 doubles, the 49er duo of Grady and JWeeks
won 8-4 over Hall and Velez. The Wolfpack won at #1 and #3 singles. At
the one spot, #48 ranked Bailly and Mizyuk won 8-5 over Williams and Bengson.
At three doubles, Pham and Dinh won 8-3 over Rocha and Porsz.
The 49ers will be at home on Thursday, March 22 when they host #64-ranked
Princeton at 2 pm at the 49er Campus Courts.
