Beach Falls To #31 Florida International

LAS VEGAS, NV-- The No. 26-ranked Long Beach State women’s tennis
team fell to 5-3 on the season after falling to #31-ranked Florida International
4-3 on Saturday in Las Vegas. FIU improved to 5-2 with the victory.
The 49ers began the day by dropping the doubles point. At #2 doubles,
Stephanie Bengson and Katy Williams won 8-2 over Nikkita Fountain and
Marijana Cutuk. The Golden Panthers won at #1 and #3 doubles to pick up
the first point of the day. At #1 doubles, Priscilla Castillo and Egle
Petrauskaite defeated Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks 8-4. Sandra Rocha
and Emmanuelle Tabatruong lost their first doubles match of the spring,
falling to Maria Dolores Pazo and Shilla D’Armas 8-5.
In singles the 49ers won at the one, two and six spots, but FIU won the
remaining three matches in straight sets. Grady won at #1 singles 7-5,
6-1 over Cutuk. Williams prevailed at #2 singles 6-4, 6-2 over Petrauskaite
and Rocha won at #6 singles 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 over Fountain. Bengson, Weeks
and Tabatruong all suffered straight set losses in singles for the 49ers.
The 49ers Las Vegas trip concludes on Sunday when they play #18 Fresno
State.
