49ers Fall Twice at UC Irvine Invite
CORONA DEL MAR, CA-- Long Beach State (3-4) lost both games of the UC Irvine Invitational, dropping a 14-5 decision to second-ranked USC, and nearly overcoming a three-goal deficit to lose 10-9 to Loyola Marymount. Against the Lions, the 49ers, after trailing 7-3, came back with four third period goals to close to within 9-7. LMU tallied their 10th goal to make it 10-7 early in the fourth, as the 49ers could not get over the hump, as three of the team's four losses have been by two goals or less. In the opener, 10 Ladies of Troy scored goals for No. 2-ranked USC to lead them to a 14-5 win into the winner's bracket. Cecilia Canetti and Megan Winchell had two goals a piece for the 49ers, as USC built a 7-2 lead and never looked back. The UCI Tournament continues on Sunday, for LBSU at Corona del Mar High School. The 49ers will begin the day at 11:45 a.m. and can play for as high as 13th place, playing at either 4 p.m. or 5:15 p.m. |
