49ers Defeat The Aztecs
Beach Defeats No. 49-Ranked San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, CA-- The #27-ranked Long Beach State women's tennis team won
its fourth consecutive match, downing #49 San Diego State 5-2 on Friday
afternoon in San Diego. The 49ers improved to 4-1 on the season while
the Aztecs fell to 3-6, losing their fourth in a row. The 49ers won five
of the six singles matches to earn the victory.
San Diego State began the day by winning two of the three doubles matches
to take a 1-0 lead. At #1 doubles, Alesya Vidov and Eliska Krausova upset
#48-ranked Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks, 8-5. The Aztecs sealed the
doubles at #2 doubles as Holly Bagshaw and Sisse Nielsen won 9-8 over
Stephanie Bengson and Katy Williams. The 49ers did win at #3 doubles as
Snadra Rocha and Emmanuelle Tabatruong won 8-4 over Kathryn Kitts and
Esther Cadua.
Singles is where the 49ers made their mark. Of the five wins, four came
in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Grady defeated #51 Bagshaw 6-2, 6-3.
The win was the second this year, and seventh overall, by Grady over a
nationally-ranked opponent. At #2 singles, Williams earned a win over
a nationally-ranked player as well, winning 6-2, 6-4 over #69 Eliska Krausova.
At #3 singles, Bengson earned a 6-2, 6-0 win oer Vidov, while at #6 singles,
Rocha prevailed 6-3, 6-4 over Ozge Atalay. The fifth 49er point came at
#5 singles as Tabatruong defeated Nielsen 1-6, 6-2, 10-4.
The 49ers will next be in action on Saturday, February 17 when they host
UC Riverside at 11 am at the 49er Campus Courts.
