49ers Head to Hawaii for Contest on the Islands FULL STATISTICS | 2007 SCHEDULE LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State Water Polo, sporting a 3-1 record to start the season, will head West to the Islands of Hawaii for one contest with the Wahine, on Saturday at 2 p.m. The 49ers, under new Head Coach Catharine von Schwarz, are coming off a ninth place finish at the Triton Invitational last weekend in which they dropped a two-goal opener to Hartwick, before coming back to defeat CS Bakersfield and Princeton. LBSU then ran by CS Northridge, 9-5. During the opening weekend, the 49ers saw balanced scoring from three players, Marina and Cecilia Canetti and Christina Wensman. Each player tallied eight goals, while Kim Hayes got better as the tournament went on, firing off save totals of 12 and 10 on day two, while holding the opponent to seven and then, five goals. Marina Canetti had 30 earned ejections over the first weekend. Against the Wahine, Hawaii holds a deceptive 13-4 advantage, winning the last three meetings, two by just a single goal. In fact, four of the losses since 2000 have been by a single goal. Since 2000, Hawaii has just a 5-3 advantage. LBSU is actually 2-2 on the Big Island since 1999, winning in 2003 and 2002. |
