49ers Defeat CS Northridge in Sweep LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State women's tennis team won its third consecutive match recording a 7-0 win over Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoon at the 49er Campus Courts. The 28th-ranked 49ers improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 against Big West foes. CS Northridge fell to 1-2 with the loss. The 49ers and Matadors played their singles matches first, just in case rain came into play later in the day. The 49ers won all six singles matches in straight sets. Hannah Grady won at number one singles 6-3, 6-4 over the Matadors Silvia Gutierrez. At two singles, Katy Williams prevailed 6-4, 6-3 over Kanykey Koichumanova and Stephanie Bengson won at three singles 6-4, 7-5 over Canna Furuta. At four singles, Jessica Weeks won 6-4, 6-1 over Ana Matijasevic, Emmanuelle Tabatruong won at number five singles 6-1, 6-2 over Kasia Krasinska and Sandra Rocha closed out a perfect day in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win at six singles over Sonya Kumar. At No. 1 doubles, nationally-ranked Grady and Weeks prevailed 8-5 over Gutierrez and Matijasevic. At three doubles, Tabatruong and Rocha won 8-1 over Kumar and Krasinska. CSUN won at number two doubles as Furuta and Koichumanova won 8-6 over the 49er duo of Bengson and Williams. The 49ers will next be in action on Friday, February 16 when they play at No.46-ranked San Diego State. SINGLES DOUBLES |
