Grady, Bengson Top Seeds at Fullerton FULL STATISTICS LONG BEACH—Long Beach State's Hannah Grady is the top seed, and Stephanie Bengson is the No. 4 seed at the upcoming Fullerton Intercollegiate from October 5 to 7. The doubles teams of Bengson and Grady (No. 2) and Deborah Armstrong and Jessica Weeks (No. 4) are seeded in the 32-player doubles draw. Grady (3-1), who reached the third round of last week's California Invitational and is the defending Big West Player of the Year, will have a first round bye, as she awaits the winner of a predominately Big West-flavored field. All four of the top singles seeds are first team All-Big West selections, as the field features players from LBSU, the host Titans, Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, LMU, UC Irvine, CS Bakersfield, CS Northridge and UC Riverside. "We got in a lot of matches in Berkeley last weekend, and were able to work on some things in practice this week to help us prepare for the weekend," said 11th year Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "This is predominately a Big West field, so it should give us a good gage of the rest of the conference." Bengson (2-2), a first team All-Big West selection a year ago, is seeded fourth in the 62-player draw, as she is matched up with the Titans Kathleen Doran. Second seeded Cal Poly's Brittany Blalock also has a first round bye in the 64-spot bracket. The 49ers will send its full compliment of players this week, as Deborah Armstrong (3-2) opens up with LMU's Shawnell Russell, Lisa Hagele (0-3) will play Cal Poly's Amy Markoff, and Emmanuelle Tabatruong (0-0), in her first tournament, will play UC Irvine's Ali Welliver. Armstrong last week opened up her freshman season by reaching the consolation finals of the California Invitational. |
