49ers Begin Season At Berkeley
Bengson and Porsz Lone Competitors

BERKELEY, CA-- The Long Beach State women's tennis team began its fall
season at the Cal Nike Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Hellman
Tennis Center. The 49ers sent two representatives to Berkeley, Stephanie
Bengson and Rachael Porsz.
Porsz began the day by advancing out of her first round match over Saint
Mary's Femke Strijbis by a default. In the second round, Porsz hung tough
with the No. 5 seed in the bracket, Cal's Nina Henkel, before falling
6-2, 6-4. Henkel, a true freshman, was ranked No. 35 in the world juniors
last year. Porsz will continue play on Saturday in the back draw.
Bengson fell 6-2, 2-6, 2-6 to Mylene Martin of the University of San Francisco
and will be competing in the back draw singles on Saturday.
In doubles, Bengson and Porsz dropped their opening match 8-6 to Rebecca
Rankin and Sabrina Capannolo of Arizona State. They came back to win their
consolation first round match 8-4 over Emma Taylor and Jenny Sperry of
San Francisco.
