49ers Roll Past UC Davis
Beach Improves To 15-4
April 8, 2006 LONG BEACH, CA-- The No. 23-ranked Long Beach State women's tennis team defeated visiting UC Davis 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the 49er Campus Courts. The Beach improves to 15-4 with the win while the Aggies fall to 4-14.
Long Beach began the day by winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Sandra Rocha and Katy Williams prevailed 8-3 over Ally Muller and Robin Guier. At the two spot, Stephanie Bengson and Rachael Porsz won 8-6 over Nancy Mok and Jenna Kappel while at three singles Jessica Weeks and Krystina Katayama won 8-3 over Audrey Wingo and Emma Shapiro.
In singles action the 49ers won five of the six matches in straight sets, losing a total of just nine games in the five victories. At the number one spot, Williams triumphed over Muller 6-2, 6-0 while Rocha won her second straight at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kappel. Weeks won 6-1, 6-0 over Wingo at No. 4 singles, Porsz won 6-1, 6-1 over Yuka Otaka at No. 5 singles and Emmanuelle Tabatruong won 6-1, 6-1 at six singles over Jessica Harris. The lone Aggie win came at No. 2 singles as Guier defeated Bengson 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
The 49ers will next be in action on Friday, April 14 when they play at No. 72-ranked Cal Poly.
