LBSU Sweeps Pacific Behind 14 Hits

LONG BEACH, CA-- Donnie Hume (2-3) pitched into the sixth and Long Beach State (23-18-1, 7-1-1 Big West) won its seventh straight with a 9-3 win over visiting Pacific (22-19, 3-9 Big West).

Robert Perry went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as Shane Peterson drove in two as well. Evan Longoria went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks as part of a 14-hit attack for The Beach.

Hume pitched well in his fifth start of the season, going five and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Hume retired eight in a row through the middle innings, before turning it over to Andrew Liebel in the sixth with a 4-3 lead.

Liebel was solid in relief, pitching two scoreless innings, before Bryan Shaw pitched the final one and one-third innings for his fourth save.

LBSU added a run in the seventh off an RBI double from Peterson to make it 5-3. The Beach then broke open the game in the eighth with four runs to lead 9-3, as Perry's two-run single started it off and made it 7-3, before a passed ball made it 8-3.

Joey Centanni (3-3) gave up four runs on seven hits over six and one-third innings for Pacific.

A Danny Espinosa RBI double in the third gave LBSU a 4-3 lead as the teams exchanged leads over the first two innings.

Longoria quickly erased an early Tiger lead with a two-run double to tie it at 2-2, before an RBI single by Jose Hernandez made it 3-2 in the first.

Justin Baum's two-run homer in the first gave UOP a 2-0 lead, before an Adam Ching RBI single tied the game in second at 3-3.

The Beach close out the five-game homestand with Pepperdine on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
