49ers Down LMU, 6-1 49ers Win Five of Six Singles Matches February 11, 2006
LONG BEACH, CA-- The No. 47-ranked Long Beach State women's tennis team won its third consecutive match with a resounding 6-1 win over Loyola Marymount on Saturday at the 49er Campus Courts. Long Beach improves to 3-2 with the victory while LMU falls to 5-3.
The 49ers won the doubles point by winning all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Katy Williams and Sandra Rocha won 8-6 over Pavla Mesterova and Robyn Baker. Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks claimed an 8-4 win at the No. 2 spot over Erin Ivey and Maja Sundac and at No. 3 doubles Stephanie Bengson and Rachael Porsz won 8-4 over Patrycia Hubl and Sladjana Kos.
In singles play the 49ers won five of the six matches, all in straight sets. Bengson won at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Ivey. At the four spot, Rocha claimed a 6-2, 7-6 victory and Weeks won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles over Maja Sundac. Porsz rooled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kos at the six spot and Williams won 6-0, default at No. 2 singles over Baker. The lone LMU win came at No. 1 singles as Mesterova escaped with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Grady.
The 49ers will next be in action on Wednesday, February 15 when they play at Cal State Northridge.
