LOS ANGELES, CA-- Logan Powell scored four goals and Michael March added three as the No. 3-ranked UCLA Bruins defeated No. 10-ranked Long Beach State 17-4 on Friday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) game at UCLA. The Bruins improve to 14-5 overall and 5-2 in the MPSF with the win. Long Beach State falls to 9-15 and 1-6 in MPSF action.
Jeff Greenwood tallied two goals for the 49ers, while Jay Gerardi and Kevin Bradley each scored once. Goalie Steve MacKenzie recorded seven goalie saves.
UCLA jumped to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter. Marco Santos got the Bruins on the scoreboard at 6:39. That was followed by the first of three first quarter goals by March. After Greenwood scored at 5:43 to cut the lead to 2-1, UCLA scored the next eight goals, taking a 10-1 halftime lead. Long Beach scored twice in the third quarter as Greenwood (4:00) and Gerardi (1:04) scored, but UCLA held a 12-3 lead after three quarters.
The 49ers will close out their regular season on Saturday, November 18 when they host UC Irvine at 12 pm at the Campus Pool. Saturday will be the final home game for the two 49er seniors, Jay Gerardi and Kevin Bradley.
