49ers Earn Second Win In A Row
LONG BEACH, CA-- Kevin Bradley, Jeff Greenwood and Nick Korsgaden all scored two goals in leading the Long Beach State men's water polo team to its second consecutive victory, 11-8 over Brown on Sunday at the Campus Pool. Eight different players tallied for the 49ers who improve to 4-6 on the season. Grant LeBeau led Brown (10-7) with five goals. The 49ers broke open a tight game by out-scoring the Bears 3-1 in the second quarter to take a 6-3 halftime lead. Jay Gerardi (7:29), Korsgaden (5:22) and freshman Travis Benson (3:42) all tallied second quarter goals. Benson was seeing his first action of the season for the 49ers. He was going to redshirt this year, but due to the left knee injury of Greg Henneman on Saturday, Benson saw action in the center position. In the third quarter the 49ers scored the first three goals to expand its advantage to 9-3 as Travis Buchanan (5:40), Greenwood (2:42) and Korsgaden (1:46) all found the back of the net. Brown was able to capitalize on four fourth quarter goals to make the final score 11-8. Mike Gartner added two goals for Brown. In goal, the 49ers Steve MacKenzie recorded 12 goalie saves while his counterpart for the Bears, Kent Holland, had nine saves. The 49ers will next be in action on Saturday, October 14 at the SoCal Tournament. The 49ers will take on Stanford in thier first game on Saturday at 9:20 am at the Commerce Aquatics Park. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
