Williams & Weeks Advance To Semifinals
Both Play at 9 am on Sunday

FULLERTON, CA-- Two Long Beach State singles players moved into Sunday'
semi-finals at the CS Fullerton Fall Intercollegiates with two victories
each on Saturday. Sophomores Katy Williams and Jessica Weeks are on the
opposite sides of the bracket and could meet in Sunday's 12 pm final if
both can get past their semi-final opponents. Williams, who is ranked
No. 85 in the nation, is the No. 1 seed in the bracket.
Williams won her first match 3-6, 6-5, retired over Kristy Fournell of
CS Northridge. She then recorded a resounding 6-4, 6-1 win over Cal Poly's
Shannon Brady. Weeks worked hard to earn her two victories. In her first
match she defeated Carol Erickson of Cal Poly 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. She then
defeated Cal Poly's Diane Filip in the quarterfinals 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles action both 49er teams were eliminated. Emmanuelle Tabatruong
and Denise Liebschner fell 8-4 to UC Irvine's Jayme Hu and Ali Borowicz.
The other doubles team of Weeks and Nina Burgoon defaulted.
In the consolation singles, Tabatruong won two matches before finally
falling in the quarterfinals. She defeated Jerusha Cruz of CS Fullerton
in her first match, 8-2. She then downed Natalie Tejada of Loyola Marymount
8-1. Tabatruong then fell in the next round, falling 8-6 to Jessica Broadfoot
of UC Irvine. Burgoon and Liebschner both dropped their backdraw singles
matches.
