49ers Doubles Teams Win At Wilson/ITA Regional Championships
Four Singles Players Eliminated

SAN DIEGO, CA-- The Long Beach State doubles teams had
another outstanding day at the Wilson/ITA West Region Championships in
San Diego. Two doubles teams advance to the third round, while in singles
all four players lost in the third round, three falling to seeded players
in the bracket. Action is taking place throughout the weekend at the Barnes
Tennis Complex and the event is being hosted by San Diego State and the
University of San Diego.
In doubles the 49ers had two teams advance to the third round. Rachael
Porsz and Denise Liebschner won 8-6 over Esther Cadua and Yuki Hagiwara
of San Diego State. They will take on Charlotte Scatliffe and Marta Simic
of UCSB at 9 am on Saturday. The 49er duo of Katy Williams and Stephanie
Bengson defeated Holly Bagshaw and Ozge Atalay of San Diego State, 8-4.
They will also play at 9 am on Saturday against the No. 5 seed in the
bracket, Judy DeVera and Amanda Fink of USC.
Singles action saw sophomore Hannah Grady, the No. 7 seed in the singles
bracket and the No. 38th-ranked player in the country, fall in the third
round to Eliska Krausova of San Diego State, 6-1, 6-3. Williams, the No.
17 seed, dropped a hard-fought three set decision to the No. 15 seed,
Kristin Nedeltcheva of UNLV. Williams fell 7-6 (4), 6-7 (2), 2-6. Bengson
also fell to a seeded player, losing 6-2, 6-1 to Alex McGoodwin of UCLA,
the No. 8 seed and 44th-ranked player in the country. Porsz was the fourth
49er to fall, and third to lose to a seeded player, falling 6-2, 6-2 to
No. 13 seed Yasmin Schnack of UCLA.
In the back draw singles bracket, Nina Burgoon won her opener 6-1, 6-3
over Alicia Poladian of Pepperdine. She then fell to USD's Alexandra Demidova,
6-3, 6-3. Liebschner defeated Cheyenne Inglis of CS Fullerton 6-3, 6-4
before falling to Asogi Onaga of UCSB, 6-3, 6-4. Emmanuelle Tabatruong
lost her back draw match to Marta Simic of UCSB, 0-6, 6-2, 2-6.
