World Championships Feature the 49ers

Familiar Faces Battle in Water Polo Showdown LOS ALAMITOS, CA-- The newest member of the U.S. National Team, former Long Beach State 49er Drue Wawrzynski (Los Alamitos), will see some familiar faces over the next few weeks. Three former teammates will compete against the U.S., not only this week in the first round of the FINA World League in La Jolla, CA at the Coggan Family Aquatic Center, but also at the World Championships in Montreal starting on July 18. A trio of 49ers will open up the World League on June 30 when Canada, featuring former players Tara Campbell (Montreal) and Alison Braden (Calgary), plays Brazil, featuring Marina Canetti (Rio de Janeiro). Wawrzynski and Team USA will get a chance to play Brazil and Canada on July 2 as part of the four-day tournament. The World League, which will culminate with the championships in Long Island, NY on July 6, feature Team USA (a 2004 Olympic Bronze Medalist), Greece (2004 Olympic Silver Medalist), Canada, Australia, Brazil, and Germany. The event will include four evening sessions and one morning session. Admission prices for the World League Championship are $10 per session or $40 for the entire tournament for adults and $5 per session or $20 for the tournament for students and seniors.
