Bouffler Earns Academic Honor Selected 1st Team Academic All-District 8 May 26, 2005
LONG BEACH, CA-- Senior Nicole Bouffler (Orange, NSW, Australia) was named today as an ESPN The Magazine first team Academic Women's At-Large All-District 8 selection. Bouffler was one of 11 women that made the first team and she will now be eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Bouffler is a two-time first team All-Big West Conference selection in both singles and doubles for the 49ers. She led Long Beach State to back-to-back Big West titles and appearances in the NCAA Championships. This year she compiled an 18-11 mark in singles, playing at the No. 1 spot, and was 17-9 at No. 1 doubles with partner Sandra Rocha. Bouffler recorded 88 career wins in her two years at LBSU, ranking No. 8 all-time at LBSU. She was the 2005 LBSU Big West Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is a four-time 49er Academic All-Star and was named the Big West Athlete of the Week twice this past season.
The At-Large category encompasses the sports of bowling, golf, rifle, crew, gymnastics, skiing, water polo, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, field hockey, lacrosse and tennis. Bouffler, along with the 10 others from District 8, will now be on the national ballot and eligible for voting for first, second or third team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams.
