National Flavor for Water Polo LONG BEACH, CA-- Fresh off a couple of All-America selections junior Cassie Azevedo (Long Beach/Wilson HS) and senior Drue Wawrzynski (Garden Grove/Los Alamitos) have both been invited to work out with the U.S. National Team beginning on Memorial Day weekend. Both Wawrzynski and Azevedo, who were a part of the Speedo Festival Top-40 International Tournament in the fall, have been asked to train with the team in hopes of playing in the World Championships in late July. The duo is one of four 2005 Long Beach State players and six total, working out with national programs. Junior Tara Campbell (Montreal) has decided to forgo her senior season to train with the Canadian National Team, while sophomore Marina Canetti (Rio de Janeiro) is a member of the Brazilian National Team. Two other former 49er greats are members of other national team programs. Two-time first team All-American Roberta Stewart has continued to train with the New Zealand National Team since her career ended in 2004 and all-time leading scorer Angelia Garcia is a member of the Puerto Rican National Team |
