49ers Drop 7-5 Decision at UCSB to Close Season SANTA BARBARA, CA-- No. 4-ranked Long Beach State (19-7, 8-4 MPSF) fell 7-5 in its regular season finale to host UC Santa Barbara (14-11, 5-7 MPSF), dropping The Beach to the fifth seed in next week's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. LBSU split its last eight decisions to close out the season, after beginning the year with a school-record 15-3 start. "We played our worst game of the season. We had zero intensity and we made more mistakes today than we have all season," said Head Coach Ricardo Azevedo, whose team has dropped two straight. "We made all the wrong decisions with every read and this puts us in a very tough position in regards to the playoffs." Robyn Gordin scored two goals for the 49ers, while Bri Hawkins made eight saves in the cage. The Beach will open up championship play next Thursday in Berkeley at 11:15 a.m.against the 12th seed. |
