49ers Remain Perfect in MPSF Play
TEMPE, AZ-- No. 3-ranked Long Beach State (12-3, 4-0 MPSF) used a three-goal rally in the third period to remain perfect in conference play with a 7-3 win over host Arizona State (5-9, 1-3 MPSF). Cassie Azevedo (Long Beach/Wilson HS) led The Beach with three goals, while Alison Braden (Calgary) added two goals. Bri Hawkins (San Diego) had nine saves. "I thought we played really well against Indiana yesterday and Arizona State was fired up to play us today after upsetting UC Irvine yesterday," said Head Coach Ricardo Azevedo. "Our defense has played extremely well this season, and our offense is starting to catch up." After Azevedo gave LBSU a 3-1 lead with 5:38 left in the second frame, three goals in the third period put the contest away. Tara Campbell (Montreal) started the rally with a goal at 5:32, before Braden's score at 4:17 made it 5-1. Marina Canetti (Rio de Janeiro) finished off the rally with a goal with 24 seconds left to lead 6-1.
