Stanford Edges 49ers for Third Place
SANTA BARBARA, CA-- The No. 3-ranked Stanford Cardinal broke a 3-3 tie in the final period with two goals as they held on to defeat No. 4-ranked Long Beach State (8-3) 5-3 in the bronze medal game of the Daktronics Gaucho Invitational. Drue Wawrznksi tallied two goals, while Marina Canetti added another. Bri Hawkins made eight saves in net and 29 over the final three days of competition. LBSU was 0-for-5 on 6-on-5 power play opportunities in the contest. "We had a very good tournament and played very solid defense," said Head Coach Ricardo Azevedo. "The defense double teamed (leading scorer) Cassie Azevedo and that opened up some things for some other players. Marina looks pretty good, despite playing in just her first weekend. She established herself this weekend and that plays well for us for the rest of the season." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
