Azevedo Named MPSF POW for the Second-Straight Week

Azevedo Named MPSF's Best, Again WOODLAND, CA-- Junior attacker Cassie Azevedo (Long Beach/Wilson HS) was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's co-Player of the Week for the second straight week as the No. 5-ranked Long Beach State 49ers improved to 5-1 to start the season. Azevedo, who is just four goals away from the century mark for career tallies, has 10 goals this season after firing off seven goals in the team's three wins to open up the season at the UC San Diego Triton Tournament, and following three goals in the team's 9-4 decision of Tritons last Saturday. This year she is shooting 37 percent from the pool, with six steals and six assists. A first team All-MPSF selection last year, Azevedo was also named a third team All-American following 47 goals in 2004. She is currently the school's single-season leader for assists and steals. This is Azevedo's third career award. The Beach travel to UC Irvine this Saturday for a game at noon. |
