Irvine Gets Past 49ers, 10-7
IRVINE, CA-- Junior Tim Hutten scored four goals to lead No. 6 UC Irvine to a 10-7 win over No. 8 Long Beach State on Thursday night at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. UCI improves to 13-10 overall and 3-2 in the MPSF with the win while the 49ers, who lost their sixth consecutive game, fall to 15-11 and 0-3 in league play. The Anteaters led 6-2 on a penalty shot by Hutten with 4:33 left in the third quarter before a 49er comeback cut the UCI lead to 7-6 after a Brett McCleave goal with 6:36 remaining in the contest. Hutten gave UCI an 8-6 lead on a goal at 6:14 and the Anteaters' lead was never less than two. Stefan Ludecke led the 49es with three goals, while McCleave, Erik Geoffroy, Brad Scoles and John Foster each tallied one goal. UCI senior goalie Joe Wynne had 10 saves on the night, including one on a penalty shot in the fourth quarter. The 49ers will next be in action on Sunday, November 6 when they host UCLA at 12 pm at the Campus Pool. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
