Gerardi & McCleave Earn MPSF Honors
Both Named Third Team All-MPSF
WOODLAND, CA-- Long Beach State's Brett McCleave (Lake Forest, CA) and Jay Gerardi (Long Beach, CA) were both named third team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) on Tuesday by the conference office.
McCleave, a senior, led the 49ers in scoring for the second consecutive season with 73 goals, while Gerardi, a junior, was second on the squad with 61 goals. The 49ers finished their 2005 season at 17-18. USC's Juraj Zatoic was named the league's Player of the Year, while Stanford's Will Hindle-Katel was named the Newcomer of the Year. Jovan Vavic of USC was named the Coach of the Year.
McCleave had an outstanding senior campaign for the 49ers, finishing with 73 goals, a mark which ranks fourth on the 49er single season chart. In just two short year he recorded 123 goals, a mark which ties him for 13th all-time at LBSU. Gerardi blossomed this year finishing second on the team with 61 goals, a career-high. A starter in every game, Gerardi recorded 19 multiple-goal games this season and finished the season strong scoring 25 goals in the final nine games of the year. At last weekend's MPSF Tournament he scored 10 goals in the three games, including four goals against USC and Pepperdine.
