49ers Fall To UCLA, 10-6 McCleave Tallies 3 Goals

LOS ANGELES, CA-- Brett McCleave tallied three goals, but UCLA had seven different players score a goal in a 10-6 win over the 49ers in the consolation round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Tournament at USC's McDonald Swim Stadium. The 49ers fall to 17-17 overall and will play Sunday in the 7th place game. UCLA improves to 20-8 with the victory and will play in the 5th place contest.
After a tight first quarter, UCLA took control of the game with three second quarter goals, grabbing a 6-2 halftime lead. Long Beach pulled to within 7-5 after three quarters, thanks to three third quarter goals, but the Bruins got their offensive game back on track with three goals in the final period.
Patrick Morrison led the Bruins with three goals and Logan Powell added two. For the 49ers, Jay Gerardi continued to have a strong tournament recording two goals against the Bruins, giving him six in the two games. Erik Geoffroy scored the 49ers final goal.
Both goalies put up good numbers as the 49ers Thomas Onyshko and UCLA's Will Didinger both finished with 12 goalie saves.
The 49ers will play Pepperdine in the 7th place game on Sunday at 10 am.
