Beach Finishes In Eighth Place In MPSF

MALIBU, CA-- Peppedine jumped to a quick 3-0 lead after one quarter and sailed from there in an 11-4 win over Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams. The 49ers fall to 17-15 overall and 1-7 in the MPSF, good for eighth place. The Waves end the regular season at 17-9 and 3-5 in the MPSF.
Jesse Smith tallied three goals, while Grant Miller and Matt Hahn scored twice for the victorious Waves. Jay Gerardi, Kevin Bradley, Ian Wenger and Satoshi Sakata all scored for the 49ers. Long Beach tallied three goals in the second quarter, but the Waves countered with four goals and took a 7-3 lead at the half. Long Beach managed just one goal the remainder of the game.
The 49ers will next be in action on Friday, November 25 when they take on No. 1-ranked USC in the quarterfinals of the MPSF Tournament, which is being held at USC. Long Beach and the Trojans will play at 2:30 pm on Friday. |
