49ers Win Three Championships at CSUF Rachael Porsz Wins Back Draw Singles & Doubles October 9, 2005
FULLERTON, CA-- Junior Rachael Porsz won two titles on Sunday at the 2005 CS Fullerton Fall Intercollegiates. Porsz captured the back draw singles and doubles titles, teaming with Jessica Weeks in doubles. Long Beach also came away with the doubles title in the main draw as the number one seed of Katy Williams and Sandra Rocha captured the championship.
Porsz won her singles semi-final by an 8-5 score over UCI's Clare Fermin. She then captured the title by default over UCI's Ali Borowicz. Porsz and Weeks defeated fellow 49ers Emmanuelle Tabatruong and Krystina Katayama 8-6 in the doubles semi-finals, and then downed Juliette Mutkze and Amy Vyhnis of UCSB 8-1 in the final.
In the main draw doubles, Williams and Rocha won 9-7 in their semi-final match over LMU's Pavla Mesterova and Tamara Tanner. In the championship, the 49er duo won 8-6 over Pepperdine's Merve Asimgil and Jelena Jovic.
The semi-final in the main draw of the singles saw the number one seed, UCSB's Marielle Gruenig, defeat Williams by a 6-4, 6-1 margin.
