USC Slips Past 49ers

49ers Fall Short At USC
LOS ANGELES, CA-- No. 1-ranked USC scored five fourth quarter goals to pull away and defeat No. 8-ranked Long Beach State 13-9 on Saturday morning at the McDonald Swim Stadium at USC. The Trojans improve to 15-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). The 49ers lose their fifth in a row and fall to 15-10 overall and 0-2 in league play. Leading the way for the 49ers were Brett McCleave and Jay Gerardi, as both tallied three goals. Erik Geoffroy scored twice and Satoshi Sakata closed out the 49er scoring with one goal. Long Beach trailed just 5-4 at the half and 8-7 after three quarters, but USC out-scored the 49ers 5-2 in the final stanza. USC's Juraj Zatovic led all scored with five goals on the day. 49er goalie Thomas Onyshko finished the day with nine goalie saves. The 49ers will next be in action on Thursday, November 3 when they play at UC Irvine at 7 pm. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
