49ers Slip Past The Gauchos, 4-3 Beach Breaks Mini Two-Match Losing Skid

SANTA BARBARA, CA --The Long Beach State women's tennis team broke a mini two-match losing skid with a 4-3 win over UC Santa Barbara on Friday afternoon at UCSB's RecCen Courts. The Beach, which is ranked No. 51 in the nation, improved to 14-7 overall and 7-2 in Big West play. UCSB fell to 8-11 overall and 3-5 vs. Big West opponents.
The 49ers began things by winning two out of the three doubles matches to earn that point. At the No.1 spot, Nicole Bouffler and Sandra Rocha won 8-4 over Marielle Gruenig and Jen Kuhle. At No. 2 doubles, Kelly Chan and Alanah Carroll won 8-2 over Andrea Pintar and Leslie Damion. UCSB won at No. 3 doubles as Wilson and Dillon won 9-8 over Emmanuelle Tabatruong and Krystina Katayama.
The Beach won the match by winning three singles matches. The match came down to the No. 3 spot as Carroll was able to battle back after losing the first set 6-2, to defeat Mio Fukushima 6-2, 6-2 in the next two sets to secure the 4-3 win. Bouffler won at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-4 over Gruenig and Tabatruong won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles over Kuhle.
The 49ers will be home next week when they host Hawai'i on April 15 and Oregon on April 16 at the 49er Campus Courts.
