49ers Fall At Cal Poly Beach Loses 5-2 To Mustangs

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA --Despite losing the doubles point, Cal Poly bounced back to win five of the six singles matches and defeat Long Beach State 5-2 on Thursday afternoon in San Luis Obispo. The Mustangs, who are ranked No. 62 in the nation, improved to 12-7 on the year. Long Beach State, ranked No. 51, fell to 13-7 overall.
In doubles, the 49ers won at the No. 1 and 3 positions to earn the doubles point. Nicole Bouffler and Sandra Rocha won 8-6 at the No. 1 spot over Kristen Grady and Samantha Waller. At the No. 3 position, Emmanuelle Tabatruong and Krystina Katayama won 8-5 over Sheila Lewis and Carol Erickson.
Singles proved to be another story for The Beach. The only singles win came at the No. 2 spot as senior Kelly Chan won 6-0, 6-3 over Chelsy Thompson. At the No. 1 spot, Bouffler fell to Waller in three sets 4-6, 6-0, 2-6 and at No. 3 singles Alanah Carroll also went three sets before falling to Grady, 4-6, 6-4, 5-7.
The 49ers continue play on the Central Coast when they play at UCSB on Friday
