49ers Earn 6-1 Win Over Brown Beach Wins 11th In A Row

LONG BEACH, CA --The Long Beach State women's tennis team came away with a strong 6-1 victory over Brown University on Friday afternoon at the Campus Courts. The victory, the 11th in a row for the No. 49-ranked 49ers, improved LBSU to 13-5 on the season while Brown fell to 8-6.
The Beach got started on the right foot when they captured two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. At the No. 1 spot, Nicole Bouffler and Sandra Rocha won a tough 8-6 decision over Kerry Meath and Alex Arlak. With the score knotted at 6-6, the 49ers were able to win the final two games to emerge with the 8-6 win. At No. 2 doubles, the Brown duo of Victoria Beck and Michelle Pautler prevailed 8-5 over Kelly Chan and Alanah Carroll. Lindsey Marvel and Krystina Katayama won easily at No. 3 doubles, 8-0 over Daisy Ames and Amanda Saiortz, and improved to 7-1 this spring.
In singles play the 49ers won five of the six matches, four in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Bouffler won her 11th consecutive singles match with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Arlak. Senior Kelly Chan powered her way to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Meath, Carroll won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 over Ames and Emmanuelle Tabatruong won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles over Pautler. At No. 4 singles, Marvel needed three sets to win, but bounced back to claim a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 win to finish off the day.
The 49ers will host the No. 70-ranked University of the Pacific Tigers on Saturday at 11 am at the Campus Courts.
