49ers Cruise by Hawaii 5-2 LONG BEACH, CA-- No. 59-ranked Long Beach State (15-7) won their second in a row, easily taking care of visiting Hawaii (8-12) 5-2, behind two of three doubles matches and four of six singles points. No. 2 singles player Kelly Chan led the 49ers with one of four straight set victories, defeating Sylvia Jaros 6-2, 6-3. No. 3 singles player Alanah Carroll easily cruised past Justine Boutlet 7-5, 6-2, while No. 4 singles player Emmanuelle Tabatruong swept past Renata Camargo 6-0, 6-1. Hawaii took points at the top spot, thanks to a three-set triumph by Lauren Fitzgerald over Nicole Bouffler, 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 and at the No. 5 singles position as Kimberly Curtis had a straight-set win over Sandra Rocha. In doubles play, Bouffler and Sandra Rocha won at the top doubles position over Jaros and Kimberly Curtis, 8-4, while Tabatruong and Krystina Katayama won at the third spot, 8-4. The Beach close out the regular season on Friday when they host No. 34-ranked Oregon at 1 p.m. Hawaii travels to CS Fullerton on Friday and to UC Riverside on Saturday. DOUBLES SINGLES |
