49ers Edge Boston College 4-3 LBSU Wins Doubles Point; Three of Six Singles
March 4, 2004 LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State (4-5) edged visiting Boston College (5-5) 4-3 in tennis action on the campus courts as The Beach took two of three doubles and won half of its singles matches led by #1 singles player Nicole Bouffler's and #2 singles player Kelly Chan's straight set victories.
The #1 team of Bouffler and Sandra Rocha defeated the team of Nida Waseem and Emily Hellberg 8-2, while Chan and Alanah Carroll swept by the #2 team of Allison Ashley and Morgan Landes 8-4. In singles play, Bouffler won in straight sets over Szilvia Szegedi 7-5, 6-3, while Chan made easy work of Waseem, 6-3, 6-1. The 49ers other victory came at #4 singles when Carroll got by Morgan Landes 7-6, 6-3.
For the Eagles, #3 singles player Allison Ashley defeated Sandra Roche in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, while the bottom end of the draw, #5 singles player Lindsey Nash won in straight sets over Emmanuelle Tabatruong, 6-1, 6-3, while Amy Molden won at the #6 position over Claudia Argumedo, 6-0, 1-6, 6-4.
The 49ers travel to UC Riverside on Friday for a matchup at 2 p.m., before returning back to campus on March 12 to host Charlotte, to begin a five-match homestand.
