10 In A Row For The 49ers Beach Defeats Idaho, 5-2

LONG BEACH, CA -- Ten in a row and counting. The No. 59-ranked Long Beach State women's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over the University of Idaho on Saturday afternoon at the 49er Campus Courts. The Beach improves to 12-5 overall and are a perfect 5-0 against Big West Conference opponents, while Idaho saw its six-match win streak snapped and falls to 8-3 on the season.
For the fourth consecutive match the 49ers won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Nicole Bouffler and Sandra Rocha picked up a tough 8-6 win over Sunel Nieuwoudt and Jessica Hubbard at No. 1 doubles. At the No. 2 position, Alanah Carroll and Kelly Chan improved to 10-1 this spring with an 8-2 win over Mariel Tinnirello and Monica Martin. At No. 3 doubles, Lindsey Marvel and Krystina Katayama won 8-2 over Kareen Konishi and Patricia Ruman. Marvel and Katayama are now 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
Singles action saw the 49ers win four of the six matches, all in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Bouffler easily routed Nieuwoudt 6-2, 6-1. Rocha won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1 over Martin, Carroll won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 over Konishi and Emmanuelle Tabatruong won at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-3 over Ruman. The 49ers will next be in action on April 2 when they host Brown University and April 3 when the University of the Pacific comes to town.
