49ers Sweep Past Nebraska, 7-0 Beach Wins Eighth Straight
March 20, 2004 LONG BEACH, CA-- No. 55-ranked Long Beach State won three super tie-breakers in singles play en route to its eighth consecutive victory as the 49ers defeated No. 70 Nebraska 7-0 on Saturday at the 49er Campus Courts. The Beach improves to 10-5 overall while the Huskers fall to 9-5.
The 49ers won all six singles matches, three in straight sets and three in game three super tie-breakers. At No. 3 singles Lindsey Marvel won 6-2, 6-4 over Rose Ketmayura, while Emmanuelle Tabatruong won at No. 5 6-4, 6-2 over Katie Garcia and Claudia Arguemdo won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 over Jennifer Cremieux. At No. 1 singles, Nicole Bouffler won her eighth consecutive match with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory over Milena Schulz-Gartner. At the No. 2 spot, Kelly Chan prevailed 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 over Leslie Harvey and Alanah Carroll won at No. 4 singles 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 over Anna Oehne.
The 49ers began the day by winning all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Bouffler and Sandra Rocha won 8-5 over Harvey and Ketmayura. At the No. 2 position, Chan and Carroll improved to 8-1 this spring with an 8-6 victory over Oehne and Schulz-Gartner. The Beach closed out the doubles with an 8-1 win at the No. 3 spot by Marvel and Krystina Katayama over Garcia and Cremieux.
The 49ers will next be in action on Friday, March 26 when they play at Cal State Northridge.
