49ers Slips Past LMU, 4-3 Carroll's Victory At No. 5 Singles Seals Victory
March 13, 2004 LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State women's tennis team picked up a hard-fought 4-3 win over Loyola Marymount on Saturday afternoon at the 49er Campus Courts. The Beach, which is ranked No. 64 in the country, improved to 7-5 with the victory, while LMU fell to 3-6. The 49ers have won five matches in a row.
The match came down to No. 5 singles where the 49ers Alanah Carroll tangled with LMU's Serena Fermin. With the match tied 3-3, Carroll was able to come from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Long Beach also won at the No. 1 and No. 4 singles spots. At No. 1 singles, Nicole Bouffler won 6-2, 6-2 over Carla Arguellas while senior Lindsey Marvel won 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot over Jennifer Baker.
Long Beach got things started on the right foot by winning all three doubles matches to earn that point. At No. 1 doubles, Bouffler and Sandra Rocha won 8-3 voer Arguellas and Fermin. Kelly Chan and Carroll won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles over Tamara tanner and Jennifer Baker while at the No. 3 spot the 49er pair of Marvel and Krystina Katayama won 8-4 over Robyn Baker and Kimi Kaloi.
Long Beach State will be at home on Sunday at 11 am when they take on No. 51-ranked Marshall University at the 49er Campus Courts.
