49ers Defeat Charlotte, 6-1 Beach Improves To 6-5 With Victory
March 12, 2004 LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over Charlotte on Friday afternoon at the 49er Campus Courts. Long Beach (6-5) swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches over the visiting 49ers (3-6).
The 49ers began the day by sweeping all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles the LBSU duo of Nicole Bouffler and Sandra Rocha won 8-5 over Laura Swain and Ashleigh Murray. At No. 2 doubles Kelly Chan and Alanah Carroll won 8-3 over Ofra Freidman and Kathy Robey. At No. 3 doubles Long Beach's Lindsey Marvel and Kristina Katayama won 8-1 over Marilyn Clark and Jennifer Hatch.
In singles play the 49ers won five of the six matches beginning at the No. 1 spot as Bouffler won 6-4, 6-1 over Swain. Senior Lindsey Marvel won at No. 4 singles 6-4, 7-6 and freshman Emmanuelle Tabatruong won at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-4 over Clark.
The 49ers will be home on Saturday morning at 11 am when they take on Loyola Marymount.
