Strong Opening Day At USD/SDSU Invite
Three Singles Players Advance To Saturday's Quarterfinals
November 7, 2003 SAN DIEGO, CA-- The Long Beach State women's tennis team completed its first day at the USD/SDSU Invitational in San Diego. Three singles players advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals, while the doubles team of Boffler/Day advanced to the semifinals.
In singles play, freshman Sandra Rocha won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals. In the first round she beat Jenna Anderson of USD, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. In the next round she ousted San Diego State's Julie Litrich, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Nicole Bouffler, who had a first round bye, defeated Alesya Vidov (SDSU) in the second round, 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Tammy Day also had a first round bye and then advanced to the next round with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over USD's Jenny Brown. Lindsey Marvel and Kelly Chan lost second round matches, while Alanah Carroll, Claudia Argumedo and Jessica Konrad lost in the first round.
In doubles, Bouffler/Day won their second round match 8-4 over SDSU's Erichson/Vidov. Bouffler/day advance to the semifinals where they take on USD's Brown/Kazarian. Rocha/Chan won their opening match 8-4 over Litrich/Graf (SDSU), but then fell to Livesay/Murphy of USD, 9-8. Konrad/Argumedo won their first round match, 9-7 over Bacnesh/Heppell (USD), but then fell in the next round to Brown/Kazarian, 8-2.
