49ers Struggle On Friday At ITA Regional Chan/Rocha Doubles Team Advance To Round of 16
October 24, 2003 SAN DIEGO, CA-- In day two at the ITA Women's Western Regional Tennis Championships in San Diego, the 49er women's tennis team advanced one doubles team into Saturday's play. The duo of Kelly Chan and Sandra Rocha defeated USD's Perl/Baensch, 8-3, to advance to Saturday's Round of 16.
In singles play, Nicole Bouffler won her first match, defeating UC Irvine's Tiffany Chang, 6-4, 6-4, in the Round of 64. In her next match, Bouffler fell to Gyorgui Zsiros of UNLV, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Three other 49ers fell in their Round of 64 singles matches as Tammy Day, Lindsey Marvel and Claudia Argumedo were all eliminated.
In doubles, Chan/Rocha will meet Zsiros/Treber of UNLV on Saturday at 2:30 pm in the Round of 16. Falling in first round doubles action on Friday were Bouffler/Day, who lost 8-6 to Brown/Kazarian (USD) and Marvel/Carroll, who fell 8-6 to USC's DeVera/Matias.
