Beach Routs UC Santa Cruz, 14-4
Tomassi, Scoles and Bartak Each Tally Two Goals
October 12, 2003 LONG BEACH, CA-- UC Santa Cruz (13-13) scored the first goal of the game just 1:11 into the contest, but that would be a short-lived lead as Long Beach State controlled the tempo from that point on en route to a 14-4 win over the Banana Slugs at the 49er Campus Pool on Sunday afternoon. With the win the seventh-ranked 49ers improve to 10-7.
Ian Lesser, who scored two goals for UCSC, scored at 5:49 in the first to give the Slugs a 1-0 lead, but the 49ers David Del Grande found the back of the net at the 2:36 mark and Brad Scoles scored at 2:06 to give the 49ers the lead for good, 2-1, at the end of the first quarter. The 49ers extended its lead to 6-3 at the half with four second quarter goals and then put the contest away in the third, by out-scoring UCSC six to zero.
Scoles, Reid Tomassi and Blake Bartak all scored two goals for the 49ers as 11 different players tallied goals for The Beach. 49er goalie Michail Konstas recorded seven goalie saves in his first start of the season. UCSC goalie Cameron Jouras had seven saves as well.
The 49ers will host the U.S. National Team in an exhibition game on Wednesday, October 15 at 4 pm at the Campus Pool.
