Big First Day For 49ers At Fullerton Invitational
Beach Advances Five Singles Players To Third Round
October 10, 2003 FULLERTON, CA-- The Long Beach State women's tennis team had a strong opening day at the CS Fullerton Invitational on Friday. Five singles players advanced to the third round of the championship bracket, while three doubles teams advanced to the championship quarterfinals.
In singles action, seniors Kelly Chan and Lindsey Marvel both won their opening two matches to move on to Saturday's third round. Tammy Day, the #2 singles seed in the bracket, won her second round match 6-2, 6-0 over UC Irvine's Hui Leow. Also advancing in singles were junior Claudia Argumedo and junior transfer Nicole Bouffler.
In doubles play, the duo of Marvel/Carroll won two matches to aedvance to the quarterfinals, including a second round 8-2 win over Takeshita/Asimgil. Chan/Rocha won two matches and are now matched up against Marvel/Carroll in the quarterfinals, while the #2 seeded team of Day/Bouffler won its second round match 8-6 oveer UCSB's Kuhle/Damian.
