courtesy of Stanford Media Relations STANFORD, CA--- The No. 2-ranked Stanford women's water polo team (15-1, 7-1 MPSF) used three goals by senior Ellen Estes en route to a 11-5 win over No. 5-ranked Long Beach State (11-9, 4-5 MPSF) on Sunday morning at the Avery Aquatic Center. Roberta Stewart led The Beach with three goals. Stanford jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter behindtwo goals from seniors Margie Dingeldein and one from Kate Pettit. Long Beach State came back to score two goals in the second quarter, but the Cardina ltook advantage of three 49er ejections. Brenda Villa netted her first goal of the game at 6:25 in the second frame and Estes scored back-to-back goals for Stanford to put them up 7-2 at the half. Consecutive goals by Long Beach State's Roberta Stewart brought the 49ers within 9-4 at the end of the third quarter. Jeanine Jackson and Villa added Stanford's final scores tohold a 11-4 lead. Stewart recorded her third goal of the game with 2:22 remaining, but it was not enough as the Cardinal held on 11-5. Dingeldein, Jackson and Villa each added two apiece for the Cardinal. Goalkeeper Jackie Frank had seven saves for the Cardinal, while Bri Hawkins registered six saves in goal for Long Beach State.
