No. 4 Ranked Bears Up End Niners 11-5
BERKELEY, CA-- The No. 4-ranked California Bears (13-6, 7-2 MPSF) snapped No. 5-ranked Long Beach States (11-8, 4-4 MPSF) five-game win streak with an 11-5 win on Saturday afternoon. San Diego natives junior Ashley Richardson scored two goals in the loss, while freshman goalie Bri Hawkins tallied 11 saves, after setting a school-record with 17 saves versus Pacific on Friday. The Bears upped their win streak to five in a row with the win.
Long Beach State jumped out to a 3-1 advantage by the halfway point of the second quarter before Cal began its comeback. After that, freshman Jodie Needles took control of the game, finishing with four goals on the afternoon.
The 49er offense nearly came to a standstill thanks to the play of Cal goalie Luaren Dennis who had seven second half saves while holding The Beach to just one goal.
