Geoffory's 4 Goals Leads LBSU Top Victory October 6, 2002 BERKELEY, CA-- Sophomore Erik Geoffroy (Rossmoor/Los Alamitos HS) scored four goals to lead the Long Beach State men's water polo team to an 8-6 victory over UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon in the 9th place game at the NorCal Tournament at Diablo Valley College. The 49ers (9-8) won both of its Sunday games, downing Princeton in its first contest, 10-7. After dropping its opening game of the tournament to LMU on Saturday, LBSU rebounded with three consecutive victories.
In the opene,r senior Aaron Holloway (El Segundo/El Segundo HS) and junior David Del Grande (Novato/Marin Catholic HS) both scored three goals to lead the 49ers to a 10-7 win over Princeton on Sunday morning at Diablo Valley College at the NorCal Tournament. The 49ers broke open a tight 1-1 game by scoring four goals in the second quarter. LBSU led 5-3 at the half and extended that lead to 7-4 after three quarters. Senior Kellyn Carlson (Tacoma, WA) added two goals and sophomore goalie Michael Konstas (Athens, Greece) recorded a career-high tying 11 goalie saves.
In the nightcap, the 49ers trailed 5-2 at the half to the Tritons, but came back in the second half, outscoring UCSD 6-1. Geoffroy tallied four goals and finished the four-game tournament with 13 goals (5 vs. LMU, 3 vs. UCSC, 1 vs. Princeton, 4 vs. UCSD). Jason Palda, Nathan Allard, Brad Scoles and Holloway added the remaining goals for the victorious Beach.
Long Beach State will be in action next weekend when they host California on Friday, Oct. 11 at 4 pm at the 49er Campus Pool. LBSU will also host UCSB on Sunday at 12 pm at the Campus Pool.
