Long Beach leads its series with Pacific, 41-16, having won three in a row and seven of the last eight. Tough Weekend: The 49ers had a tough weekend at the 49er Campus Pool, dropping to games. On Friday the 49ers fell 5-4 to Cal. LBSU rallied from a 5-1 deficit with three goals in the fourth quarter. the 49ers had a chance to tie as they had the ball with 0:22 left, but turned it over and were not able to get off a shot. Sunday the 49ers fell 9-7 in a non-league game to UCSB. The 49ers trailed 8-4 near the end of the third quarter and pulled to within 8-7, but couldn't get over the hump. Erik Geoffroy had three goals for The Beach. Holloway Has All-Around Game: Senior Aaron Holloway (El Segundo/El Segundo HS) is second on the squad this season with 33 goals scored, but he has displayed a great all-around game. Holloway has 37 assists this season, a mark which leads the 49ers, and his 21 steals is tied for first on the squad. Holloway has 100 career goals as a 49er, placing him #15 on the career goal chart. He has tallied at least one goal in 17 of the 19 games and has scored in nine consecutive games. His 11 multiple-goal games is second on the team.
Geoffroy Leads In Scoring: Sophomore Erik Geoffroy (Rossmoor) leads the 49ers in scoring this season with 36 goals. With eight more goals he will tie himself for #24 on the 49er single season chart with 44 goals. He has quite a way to break the school-record of 92 goals though, set by Kyle Kopp in 1989. Geoffroy has scored at least one goal in 15 of the 19 games and he leads the squad with 12 multiple-goal outings. He recorded a career-best five goals on Oct. 5 vs. LMU at the NorCal Tournament. He also tallied four goals vs. Cal Baptist (9/28) and UC San Diego (10/6) this season. At the NorCal Tournament in Berkeley, he tallied 13 goals in the four games. Geoffroy has also chipped in with 20 assists and 15 steals in the 19 contests this season.
Allard Climbing Up Scoring Chart: With 25 goals this season junior Nathan Allard (La Habra) has 71 career goals as a 49er. He needs just two more to tie himself for 24th all-time at LBSU. Allard has connected on 25-56 (.446) of his shot attempts this year, the best percentage on the team. He has also be a stalwart on defense, with a total of 89 earned ejections against the opposition. Allard tallied a career-best four goals against Bucknell (Sept. 7) and LMU (Oct. 5).
Double Your Pleasure: The 49ers are 6-1 this season when they score double digits in goals. The only setback came to Loyola Marymount at the NorCal Tournament, where LBSU fell 13-12 in sudden death overtime. When the 49ers have given up double digits in goals, they stand at 0-5. 2002 SCHEDULE & RESULTS 9-10 Overall / 0-2 MPSF September 7 ! Bucknell W, 16-3 7 ! Navy W, 7-6 8 !
