Dave Rodda enters his 12th season overseeing the jumpers and multi-eventers as an assistant coach at Long Beach State.

Since 2001, Rodda has coached 11 Big West champions and 35 all-conference selections. The 49ers have also had 28 regional qualifiers, 13 national qualifiers and six All-Americans in Rodda's group, including two-time honoree and Big West Field Athlete of the Year Chris Richardson (decathlon). In 2008, Richardson garnered his second All-America honor after placing third in the decathlon at the NCAA outdoor championships.

In 2006, LBSU had three All-Americans in Richardson and triple jumpers John Temidara and Ronald Carter. That same year, Rodda was tabbed the NCAA West Region jumps/combined events assistant coach of the year.

Rodda has also coached track and field at the regional, national and international levels. In his career, he has coached 11 Olympians, including high jump bronze medalist Joni Huntley, sprinter Martha Watson, and 1996 U.S. Olympian Sharon Hansen.

In 1996, Rodda was distinguished as a Master Coach, the highest recognition in coaching education by the USATF. On the international level, Rodda served as a head coach at the 1995 Pan American Games and at the 1991 World Championships. He also served as an assistant for the U.S. Olympic teams in 1980 and 1988.

Rodda is a 1968 graduate of Long Beach State and retired as the Director of Recreation and Community Services in the nearby city of Lakewood in December, 2002. Rodda resides in Long Beach with his wife, Jeri.
