Brandon Hierholzer enters into his sixth year as an assistant coach at Long Beach State, working with the pole vaulters and the multi-event athletes as well as serving as Long Beach State’s Camp Director.
 
Under his leadership, Long Beach State’s pole vaulters continue to be a strength for the program, with
guidance, LBSU's vault squad has five All-Big West performances, three conference champions, seven  NCAA regional Qualifiers, and an NCAA All-American.
 
Hierholzer has also expanded his responsibilities to the multi events, coordinating and overseeing their daily training working with all-conference honorees such as Riley Cooks and John Broadhead.
 
 Hierholzer’s athletes continue to populate the Long Beach State record books, as five men have cleared 17 feet, with four of those currently ranking in the program’s all-time Top 10 in the pole vault either indoor or outdoor. On the women’s side, Amy Bell, Kennedy Kreuger, Jodi Lambert and Lauren Bartsch currently rank 4-7 in the Pole Vault record books at the Beach.
 
Decathletes Herman Day and John Broadhead both joined the program’s Top 5 scores in 2019, and Heptathlete Riley Cooks set the program record in 2017 at 5,671, and continues to find success in International competition.
 
Other marks of note include sending three pole vaulters to the 2017 NCAA Regionals, and a one-two finish from Michael Montgomery and Xander Cooper in the 2016 Big West Championship. Montgomery would go on to compete in both the NCAA regionals and championship, earning All-American honors.
 
Hierholzer competed in the pole vault at the Beach in 2012 and 2014 after transferring from American River College in Sacramento. As a senior and co-captain, he was the Big West runner-up and advanced to the NCAA West regional. Hierholzer established a personal-best 17-00.75 at the conference meet and ranks 10th in school history. He also scored in the pole vault at the Big West Championships as a junior in 2012.
 
Hierholzer graduated from Long Beach State in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an option in K-12 physical education. He is Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist(CSCS) by the NSCA. A Track and Field Technical Coach, as well as has an Advanced Endorsement as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach by the USTFCCCA.
