John Wurzer enters his first year as assistant coach with the Long Beach State men's golf program.

"John comes with a lot of knowledge of the game and a lot of history with his parents working at Long Beach State," said head men's golf coach Mickey Yokoi. "His expertise that he brings will not only help our players with their golf game, but will also be a big part of our recruiting."

Wurzer comes to LBSU after spending four years as Director of Golf Operations and assistant coach at USC. He helped the USC men's & women's teams achieve top 20 rankings and helped assemble elite recruiting classes.

Before arriving at USC, Wurzer was the head golf coach at nearby Torrance High for nine seasons (2000-08), where he led the Tartars to the 2005, 2007 and 2008 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Girls Golf Championships.

Under his leadership, Torrance became the most successful high school girl's program in California with 24 top-2 finishes in CIF events (17 CIF championships and seven CIF runner-up finishes). His teams produced 2007 LPGA Rookie of the Year Angela Park, LPGA Tour members Jane Rah, Jenny Shin and Demi Runas as well as Futures Tour player Maria Ham.

Wurzer is a 2006 graduate from LBSU where he was a four-year letterwinner on the men's golf team under former head coach Bob Livingstone. During his career at the Beach, Wurzer recorded seven top-10 performances and captured the 1996 CSUN Bill Cullum Invitational.

John is a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Level-3 Certified Golf Fitness Instructor and a Certified Golfing Machine Instructor (GSEM).

"I'm excited about the opportunity to work at my alma mater," Wurzer said. "I grew up a Long Beach State fan and being able to return to the program is special opportunity."

Wurzer graduated with an Interdisciplinary Studies degree in Coach Education and Sport Development.
