Behind strong play from Jaden Huggins, Long Beach State picked up three places in the final day from The Preserve.

CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. – Senior Jaden Huggins picked up a halted round two with great momentum to help lead the way for No. 32 Long Beach State Men's Golf, who closed out their fall competition schedule with a second-place finish at the Cal Poly Invitational.

Final Results

"Incredible round by the boys today," said head coach Rob Murray. "To fight our way into second place really showed the heart of this team. That rounds out an incredible fall with a total record of 69-6. That's a true achievement by the entire team, and the guys deserve all the credit."

Huggins was in the midst of a massive round when play was halted in the second on Monday and continued that momentum to begin Tuesday with three more birdies on the way to a 7-under par 65 in the second round, the best of his career at the Beach.

The senior then shot 69 in the final round, climbing all the way into the Top 5 and finishing the tournament 8-under par. "Jaden played 10-under par the last 36 and really carried the team home," added Murray.

Two others finished in the Top 10 for the tournament as Long Beach State moved up three spots on the day. Alejandro de Castro Piera was under par in back-to-back rounds, finishing the second with a 69 before shooting 70 in the final round, while Jack Cantlay finished 69 and 71 as the pair tied for ninth place at -6.

Junior Krishnav Chopraa finished the day with a 71 in round three, as all four scorers for the Beach finished under par in the final round.

The Beach made up six strokes in the final round on No. 25 BYU, but the Cougars held on to take the victory. Long Beach State bested Oregon by a stroke and finished ahead of San Diego and Grand Canyon in the Top 5 of the overall team standings.

Long Beach State Men's Golf will take a break for the winter and return to action on February 12 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate hosted by Hawai'i.
